There are website templates available free of charge in many places, and often they are offered as an introduction to a range of paid for templates. It's worth checking these free options to see if anything fits what you need, or can be customised easily, depending on the web publishing platform you are working with, be that WordPress, Joomla, Drupal or others.
Below are some selected websites that have templates available for download, some free and some charged for, under the CMS or E-commerce system that they are designed to work with. These are not necessarily the best or recommended, and we would like to hear feedback about them from users so that it can be incorporated into our website reviews.
Download WordPress Templates
WordPress has by far the largest range of free website templates available for any CMS and they can be found in the WordPress Theme Directory, along with a range of commercial website templates. They can be browsed under headings of Featured, Popular, and Latest, with a Feature Filter allowing them to be selected by Layout, Features and Subject.
Download Joomla Templates
Joomla is the second largest CMS after WordPress in usage and also has an extensive range of templates available, though more on the commercial side than free. Joomla templates can include a large range of features built in, such as responsive designs, web page speed improvements, slideshows, menus or other presentation features. The commercial website templates for Joomla usually have far more features than the free versions. The official Joomla website doesn't have a template gallery or download section,
Some good sites to start looking for Joomla Templates are JoomlArt, Joomla-Monster, and RocketTheme.
Download Drupal Templates
Drupal has it's own repository of free themes which can be searched using some very extensive criteria such as Maintenance status, Development status, Core compatibility, Status, Stability & Security advisory coverage, along with the ability to Sort by Relevancy, Most Installed, Created Date and others.
